Shane Claiborne

Erik Guzman June 14th, 2007

This week, Steve Brown talks with Shane Claiborne about his book The Irresistible Revolution: Living as an Ordinary Radical. They discuss their political differences, The Simple Way community in inner-city Philadelphia, and Shane's time in Iraq during the Shock and Awe bombing campaign.

Are you stuck between unbelieving activists and inactive believers? Feeling fine about life after death, but wondering if the Gospel has something to say about life before death? Could something as simple as love solve the problems in Iraq? Check out this week's edition of The Brown Sessions.

There was a massive fire in the Kensington area of Philly last night. It appears that one of the houses in the Simple Way (the one shane was living in)was burned. I am sure they could use our prayers right now. I am posting all the info (including video) I can on my site – http://joblessminister.typepad.com

I'm reading this book right now and it's just awesome—right along with the beat of our hearts here. It's good to see our own swirling thoughts put into ordered words. I think there are many people who are just like me–asking the same questions, wanting to follow that Jesus that we fell in love with (but then seemed to lose while trying to cooperate with what the American church world said we had to do to be a Christian), ready to step tentatively out into new waters and BE the church instead of going to sit in one–and sometimes wondering if we're totally all alone and maybe half crazy.
Reading the book made me smile. I'm not crazy. I'm not alone. And if there was hesitancy before, God has used your own story to build my faith, replacing nervousness with excitement. :) Thanks.

I have read this book 3 times now, and keep giving my copies away. What a beautiful example of putting hands and feet to Jesus Christ. I pray I could be this real and impactful to the "least-of-these". Thanks Steve for the interview and thanks Shane for your heart.
