I'm afraid we miss the point of the quote. Jesus is pure but we (the church) are not perfect. We need to admit when we fall short and make sure folks know the difference between the imperfect church and the perfect Son of God! I would not know Jesus Christ if not for the Church but the church has made amy mistakes (sins) throughout the ages.

I've heard that quote was errouneously attributed to St. Augustine by Tony Campolo, and that it actually originated w/Doris Day. Any proof/evidence that Augustine ever uttered anything like that?

in this lesson, dr. brown mentioned that the Holy Spirit convicted him, as a believer, of sin. i too have heard that for a long time but so far i have not been able to find a verse that says that the Holy Spirit convicts believers of personal sin. can y'all help me out and give me a reference please?

Hi, still on the Steve Brown marathon currently at "church is a whore" – ive got to say about our job as Christians -Confessing our sins- as an alternative to witnessing …well i may be words in your mouth , irregardless what i heard is the main principle thats used in A.A. that when you tell someone about the "program" it carrys little or no depth or weight, but when i talk about my drinking habits (ie. testimony, drunkalog, "sins", etc.)then i speak as one with authority and a common language-not as one who is condeming, self-rightous- all i can ever give as alcohlic/christian/overeater-is my experience strength and hope. Then we go to our literature-Big Book AA / Bigger Book Bible for the answer= God aka Jesus- Thanks (i still dont get if my life blows -how understanding God is soverign makes it better- Thats like "Its better than a stick in the eye-OH that makes it so much better,not)lol God Bless You and gang- David S.
