The Man Called CASH – Steve Turner

Erik Guzman July 5th, 2007

Johnny Cash is Steve Brown's favorite artist, so it was a real treat for him to spend some time talking with Steve Turner, the author of The Man Called CASH: The Life, Love and Faith of an American Legend.

As Cash's authorized biographer, Turner had access to previously unpublished letters, private photographs, as well as friends, family and colleagues in Cash's life, and the book includes behind-the-scenes insights into the death of Cash's wife June.

Check out this edition of The Brown Sessions to hear the consummate fan of Johnny Cash interview the expert's expert on the "Man in Black."

After you listen, watch the video for Hurt (posted below) that was referenced in the show. It's even more intense after getting an insider's look at Cash's life, pain, and faith.

Steve Turner began his journalistic career as Features Editor of the rock monthly Beat Instrumental where he interviewed many of the key figures of early 1970s rock. He then became a freelance journalist, and wrote his first book Conversations with Eric Clapton. In 1998, Bono invited him to write the book for the U2 film Rattle and Hum. He has also written biographies of Cliff Richard, Van Morrison and Marvin Gaye.

For all you Cash fans. Check out Coverville.com
The 02/21/08 episode is all Cash covers! Elvis Costello's version of "Ring of Fire" is excellent. Generally good podcast I've recently discovered (and feel totally out of the loop as it's been around for years).

Johnny Cash my all time favorite entertainer and I love hearing Steve Brown anytime, even when he is rude and without explanation. Christ is real and isn't trying to make "nice people" but people who care and hurt, but also trust Him to be all He claims to be. Some day we shall see him "face to face".
