Constantine (2005)

Watching Theology July 15th, 2007

wt__const_web.jpgKeanu Reeves is no stranger to roles with significant theological and philosophical impact: Neo, Buddha, Ted "Theo-dore" Logan. In this edition, we look at him as he fights the forces of good and evil, once again coming face-to-face (remember The Devil's Advocate?) with Satan. On this episode, we follow Reeves as the incarnation of the Hellblazer comics anti-hero in Francis Lawrence's Constantine. Join us as we explore the power of quasi-Catholic dogma, the fight for redemption and the attempt to gain God's favor. Along the way, we'll encounter the angel Gabriel and ask whether God really does have a plan.
Watching The Directors next edition: July 24 – Stanley Kubrick
Next WT edition: July 31 – Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

One Response to “Constantine (2005)”

Austin July 19th, 2007

Hey guys,

Another great episode. I was hesitant about this spin-off show, but I am really digging it week after week. This actually made me want to see Constantine again, a movie I liked but didn't love. I'm not into many comic books, but it was the theology that made me enjoy this one.

I recently saw the classic The Night of the Hunter a few weeks ago and upon finishing I thought "This would be great for Watching Theology." I was a little underwhelmed by the movie, but it would provide for some good discussion. Keep up the spiffy work.
