Hear Shane Claiborne on SBE!

Erik February 15th, 2008

Prominent activist, speaker, and author of The Irresistible Revolution, Shane Claiborne joined us on this edition of Steve Brown Etc.

Shane gave us an update on how The Simple Way community is doing eight months after the 7-alarm blaze that destroyed their community center and homes. We also talked about the new book Shane and Chris Haw have authored titled, Jesus for President: Politics for Ordinary Radicals.

This book is a work of art, and it's as beautiful as it is profound. Each page is laid out with images, poems, stories, quotes, and Shane Claiborne's writing, all designed to provoke the Christian political imagination. Be prepared for a fresh look at fundamental issues of faith and allegiance.

Publisher's Weekly gave the work their "starred" rating and wrote, "Here is the must-read election-year book for Christian Americans." We agree. Don't miss this program.

Another World is Possible February 21st, 2008

Hey if you're a fan of Shane Claiborne and his book, then you should really check out the Another World is Possible DVD series. It's a multimedia project by Shane Claiborne and Jamie Moffett (co-founders of the Simple Way) that emerged in response to their belief that things are not right in the world, and that they don't have to stay that way. There are three DVD's, one on war, one on poverty, and one on creation. You can find out more about them at http://www.awip.us.

Shane has been an inspiration to me and several close friends. As a response to the upcoming Economic Stimulus Package rebate checks, and in line with Shane and Chris's call for the formation of new feasts, festivals, and holidays that set us apart from empire, I have started an experiment called the Pentecost Project. A link and a brief intro follows. Peace - Josh Frank
http://pentecostproject.wordpress.com
"The Pentecost Project is an experiment towards a more true and loving economy. As we approach the release of rebate checks from the U.S. government as part of its 2008 economic stimulus package, we are wondering if there is a better way to stimulate the economy than to become greater individualistic consumers.

Instead of blowing our rebate checks on new iPods or as down payments on new cars, we propose that we can: invest in others, share possessions, reduce debt."
