Etcetera – 07.02.08 – Life and Death

Erik Guzman July 3rd, 2008

Me in the womb of death waiting to be born. This week on Etcetera, The Comedy Ninja and The Spastic Mystic joined me in the studio for a ride down the Internet Stream of Collective Consciousness. That's my silly way of saying my friends Matt and Sharon stopped by and we recorded a conversation that seemed directed by a Mind beyond ourselves.

I was all prepared to talk about my recent fascination with death (and birth as the beginning and end of death). Then, Matt gave us the update on the impending arrival of baby Alejandro and Jordo called in to talk about walking through his valley of the shadow of death after a recent breakup (which is how Sharon's book, A Doxology in Darkness, begins)!

The coolness of experiencing all this is probably lost in my description, use one of the options below to listen and see if any of this means anything to you.

Here are some links that came up in this show…

-Chapters one, two and three of Sharon's book, A Doxology in Darkness.

-Why They're Not Emergent – Kevin & Ted on SBE

-Thanks to Bill Mallonee and Leo Nevillo for providing music for the show.

Also, I'll be on vacation next week, so no Etcetera for you. Look for new episodes starting the week of July 14. But, check the blog next week for chapter 4 of A Doxology in Darkness and join Sharon on her journey to "…give thanks in a state of inner desolation [and] to trust in the love of God in the face of the marvels, cruel circumstances, obscenities, and commonplaces of life" (Ruthless Trust, Manning).

Sharon I haven't read it yet. I will. I in a really crazy place right now.

Erik, the etceterapedia will take shape–at least in my mind. Its a bit of a pipe dream at this point. I am in the habit of biting of more than I can chew. I'll do my best.

Matt, I wish you the best with the new person. I hope to some day take part in the alchemy of life. Alas, I have to master the alchemy of love first.

That is a video of a deep zoom of the mandelbrot set. It is a continuous zoom out. It starts out with a zoom factor of about 10 to the 1000th. That's a 1 followed by 1000 zeros, folks. A factor of 10 googles. To put it in perspective, there are approximately 5.1 times 10 to the 27th inches in the visible universe, that's a 10 with 27 zeros. There are approximately 4 times 10 to the 79th atoms in the Universe. That zoom factor is about 10 billion, billion, billion, billion– I'd go on but I'd have to right billion about 333 times, and that would annoy everyone.

"Escape to the Mandelbrot"
Sounds like a good Sci-Fi title.

I've thought of making an "abbreviated" version of show but taking the funny and profound sound bites and making a 1-3 minute conversation from Etcetera, with perhaps a bite or two from SBE. I think I'll get to it after I finish painting my house, fixing my family problems, updating my blog, …. there goes that idea.
