The Tragedy of American Compassion – Marvin Olasky on SBE
Erik Guzman July 4th, 2008
Dr. Marvin Olasky joins us on this edition of Steve Brown Etc. to discuss his book, The Tragedy of American Compassion. Use one of the options below to listen.
Bill Bennett once called The Tragedy of American Compassion "the most important book on welfare and social policy in a decade. Period." It influenced the Clinton Administration's welfare reform and deeply affected George W. Bush's policies. But with the war on terror, the ideas in The Tragedy of American Compassion have taken a backseat.
Don't miss this conversation with Steve Brown and one of his heroes as they look at the problem of modern welfare…not its cost but its stinginess in offering the true necessities: challenging, personal, and spiritual aid rather than entitlement and bureaucracy.
Dr. Olasky is editor-in-chief of World magazine, provost of The King's College in New York, and author of a bunch of books.
