The PETA Files

Erik Guzman August 11th, 2008

These guys kill me.As we reported this weekend, the recent horrific cannibalistic attack on a Greyhound bus in Canada has prompted a newspaper ad response from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

What, you may ask, does the tragic beheading of an innocent 22-year-old man have to do with animal rights?

Here's a quote from the PETA press release regarding their ad:

While it isn't every day that a human is violently attacked and eaten by another human, it's worth noting that it is the norm for many people not to give any thought to the fact that restaurants are serving flesh that comes from innocents who were minding their own business before someone came after them with a knife. How amazingly and conveniently compartmentalized the human mind is…

The human mind is indeed baffling to me, but for reasons that I'm sure would be lost on the good folks at PETA. I have to be careful here, PETA is a sponsor of SBE. Use one of the options below to listen to another one of their brilliant ads.

I love their bread. I order PETA sandwiches all the time. They are delicious and low carb.

But isn't all this talk about animals discriminatory to plants? What about PETP – "People for the Ethical Treatment of Plants." Plants have feelings too.

My favourite PETA sandwiches are a philly cheese steak or montreal smoked meat. Its so nice not getting all that extra bread so that you can get more meat in the sandwich

And what about the "People for the Ethical Treatment of Insects," and "People for the Ethical Treatment of Microorganisms." Speciism (sp?) is everywhere. Where does it end? Logically, I mean, and that is probably the step at which a logical person loses the animal advocate.

People Eating Tasty Animals

Meat is murder. Tasty, tasty murder.

Actually PETA was initiated by Abel in the garden when he told Cain to Please Eat The Animals and Cain rebeled by promoting the vegan lifestyle. oops.

If you think about it, nature itself is the most condemning of PETA. Animals have no compulsion or regret about eating other animals. Does a lion regret eating a cute gazelle?

Wouldn't it be wonderful if sharks were like the 3 sharks in the movie "Finding Nemo." "Fish are our friends…" Unfortunately, the world was not created that way.

Perhaps there is a message here. Life to sustain life. Jesus gave his life that we may live. Regardless of your animal rights beliefs, we should all be grateful for the lives that are given that we may live.

Imagine a world of only herbivores… What a mess! They die and the carcasses sit around until vines grow around them and consume them.

I remember a Far Side cartoon. The animals of the forest are all standing around talking. They all remember where they were when they heard Bambi's mother had been shot.
