Walking with God – John Eldredge on SBE

Erik Guzman September 19th, 2008

You may talk to God every day but the question is, does He talk back? John Eldredge has been talking with God and says that what he's hearing can satisfy humanity's deepest longings.

Use one of the options below to join us on this edition of SBE as we talk with John Eldredge about his new book, Walking with God: Talk to Him, Hear from Him, Really. This book is straight from John's journals and demonstrates what honest, conversational intimacy with God can be like for every believer.

John Eldredge is founder and director of Ransomed Heart Ministries and bestselling author of The Sacred Romance, Journey of Desire, Wild at Heart, and many more. After you listen, be sure to check out RansomedHeart.com and WalkingwithGod.net for some great resources.

Jut got through listening to the John Eldredge interview on Steve Brown etc. Encouraging, very encouraging! He is the second guy I've ever heard that actually believes God actually speaks to us personally. (The other guy is Dallas Willard.)

This scares the SPIT out of me… what did John mean… "You gotta be careful with that… ) referring to agreeing with the enemy…

Recently, the enemy made me think that I Lost my salvation… and i agreed… in the sense that I became full of fear that i had lost my salvation and that God had abandoned me… does that mean i'm not saveD?!

I mean, It's complicated, but i just got over all that… I kept FEELING like God wasn't there… but then i got into the word, and read scripture and believed God over this "Feeling" He promised He'd NEVER leave me… I was so scared to think that HE had… but i wanted HIM so much… GOD obviously put that desire in me… To keep seeking HIM, not letting GO…

But then this guy says that… and now i'm like, "What do you mean "My sheep hear my voice" I obviously knew HIS voice, right? i mean, i ugh!

I confess that Jesus is Lord, and i KNOW that God the Father Raised HIM from the dead! I KNOW IT! In my heart, I believe it!!!

… sigh… (By the way… I've been listening to your Scandalous Freedom stuff… it's been helping! It really has! I was feeling like i was walking on eggshells all day… )

I rise up and call you blessed, Steve.

P.S. I think that I think TOO much.

Great show guys!

John Eldredge is da man! He certainly has blessed me in a great way, prior to that point Steve had blessed me in a similar way with his teaching. To hear these two men who've had such a great influence on my walk with Christ was a beautiful thing!

P.S. Loved that C.S. Lewis quote too!

I believe that God speaks to me in a quiet wlhisper and a nudge to go
in the right direction.
Example – an imoprtant committe in church was having trouble dealing with a prospective music director. I was praying about the committe and the proposed music director. When I finished praying God nudged me to look for a passage in a study course book. I studied from the book about 10 or 12 years ago. I got the book
off the shelf, thumbed though it, and my eyes fell on a page or 2 and there it was. I copied it and took the pages to the
chairman of the committe. He thanked me for it and said that was
just what he needed and he told the committe that this was the
direction he would work with the committe.

I love John Eldridges writing – and Steve's teaching – both are a major inspiration to me – Brown and Eldridge = The real Dynamic Duo and dragon slayers.

Many years ago, God first brought Steve into my life to help open my heart to the possibility of stepping away from religion and into freedom. Eight years ago I attended a retreat led by John Eldredge, heard God's voice, and have been learning to walk with Him ever since, now through a battle with cancer. It is interesting, and a blessing to me, that John specifically mentioned chemotherapy. I love these two men because they have accessed the abundant life made available through the work of Jesus and live free, and because of them, so do I.
