The New Conspirators – Tom Sine on SBE

Erik Guzman December 19th, 2008

My new hero Tom Sine and his wife (I wanna be like Tom when I grow up).The volatility of the new global economy and the growing recession are presenting unprecedented challenges for those most vulnerable to the upheaval. At the same time, the American Church is bleeding the people and resources required to meet the needs of our poorest neighbors.

Enter the new conspirators, a growing number among us who are quietly planting the future one mustard seed at a time. Tom Sine is an authority on global trends and Christian response. He joins us on this edition of Steve Brown Etc. to give us a glimpse of what's beginning to sprout.

Tom Sine is a futurist, founder of Mustard Seed Associates and the author of several books. His latest is The New Conspirators: Creating the Future One Mustard Seed at a Time.

It's not very often that after listening to a podcast I'm moved to run out and buy a book but…I too am an old white guy who as of late has come in touch with some of these 'streams" flowing among the youth. i fully believe taht the Holy Spirit is indeed at work however looking out at the world through our stained glass windows has somewhat obscured our view of the landscape.

As Tom intimates we are in troubled times and no doubt heading for greater difficulties. The opportunity that was available to my generation has passed and many young people sense that there is for them no "American Dream'. There is also a hunger for 'spirituality"…and as Tom points out, among youth there is no 'christian" foundation…no drawing back to the old paths…and we (the old guy generation"…for the most part…have no connection with today's youth or even with the obsticles and issues which are of concern to young people.

So I pray for a revival among those "dead bones" on the former "structure", taht we will come to life and become an army rather than an institution whose time has come and gone.

My recent association with these young searching believers has begun a revolution in my life. I have even realized that "global warming" is not a four letter word.

I can't wait until the book comes.

Good Evening,I listen to Steve Brown's one minute "You think about that…" segments on 88.9 in the Orlando, FL. market. I adore his ability to make all this gospel-ez from the B.C. and A.D. times, suddenly click with the here and now,I myself never had much time for God, thought church was a complete bore. I never wanted children, even as a child never played with dolls, didnt have a maternal bone in my body. Then one day I realised I was 5 weeks pregnant, divorced, just lost my job and was in the middle of filing bankruptcy. As soon as I saw the unltra sound I became a God's Girl. My now 6 year old son and I are doing our first Bible read through — together. On that note, could I have a written transcript of this interview? I wanted to do research and I cant spell all the names and movements mentioned correctly and it would help a great deal. Thank you so much, for what you do! Respectfully Marjorie Merritt
