Dancing with Democrats – Dr. Joel Hunter on SBE

Erik Guzman January 16th, 2009

Join conservative spokesman, Dr. Joel Hunter, on this edition of SBE as we discuss the controversy surrounding his association with President-elect Obama, Rick Warren's involvement in the inauguration, pro-life Democrats, Obama's Christian faith and more.

(If you're on the front page of the site, click "Read More" to see audio player options.)

Dr. Hunter is a registered Republican, he says he's not part of the religious left and he delivered the closing prayer at the Democratic National Convention. What's with that?

Joel Hunter is also the author of A New Kind of Conservative and the senior pastor at Northland, A Church Distributed in Florida.

Another great show guys. I skipped the conventions, so I was sort of out of the loop on Hunter. The book sounds interesting. Another one to add to the list.

This was a great show, but I felt the air go out of the room over there, when Steve realized that the guy wasn't politicly conservative. I kinda felt bad for the old white guy. Face it Steve your the only conservative in this country who loves the poor.lol!

Steve and Company,
I have been listening in on wmit, Black mtn. NC in the AM.
I can totally get with the grace, love and laughter – I am a little envious, because I don't laugh much and I really need to.
I want to say a few things about old Joel Hunter and His friend Barack Obama. I don't believe in dancing around with democrats on issues that I disagree with them on! Brother Hunter and you guys talk like the democrats have a monopoly on love, civility and environmental common sense; but I tend to believe that they like money as much as anyone does and that they use good issues only for political expedience. Steve, I am honestly mad at Barrack Obama and Americans that supported him. I honestly believe, after reading both sides, that he trampled on the Constitution and the Declaration to get the presidency. If I am right, how can any good come without exposing his inelgibility? If I am wrong pray for my eyes and heart to be open.
Keep Laughing, wee need it!
Stephen

By the way I was just joking. Leftys Christians definetly don't have a monopoly on the gospel, It's just that on the show Steve is always chiding Eric about getting conservatives on the show who are authentic Christians.

I read Joel's book and enjoyed it, and also have been to Northland from time to time and worshiped. That being said, I feel like Joel has exchanged being used and manipulated by Republicans to being used and manipulated by Democrats. In the words of the editors at Christianity Today, "Access is not the same thing as influence." Joel and other like-minded evangelicals are urging Christians to "move on" from issues like abortion to a broader agenda, and that's all well and good. However, as Pres. Obama showed us last week, the Democrats are not backing off one bit from their pro-abortion agenda… how do we reconcile this?

There is no way Joel Hunter has a drop of conservative consideration in his diet. He said himself that in his early days in college he was a rebel of rebels. He hated Ali then but loves him now since they are both Obama worshipers. He is a republican in name only, and BHO is using it in all it's potential. I know Joel is an intelligent person, but it seams he is suffering from a dose of denial

I am a registered democrat and a member of Northland church. I could not be prouder than I am right now of Pastor Joel Hunter and his involvement with the DNC and President Obama. We do not need to label people as either conservative and liberal and then put them in a box! Joel is doing exactly as Jesus would do! I love him and appreciate him and support his actions. Thank you Pastor Joel for all you do!

ah yes – compromise… what a wonderful thing our "Church Leaders" are doing. If these are the last days, Joel is not one of those that I would choose to follow…

Noel April 26th, 2009

I salute what Arte has said. Pastors all across the land are diluting and perverting the message to help put people in the pews. The infection called "television" destroys the central issues of Scripture and pastors like Osteen and Warren survey the congregation to find out what kind of worship and doctrine will keep the house full. If Christ walked with us today, would he change his message? If he sat across from BHO in the Oval Office, would he not chastise him for his positions on moral issues? Would he tell the President that abortion, immorality and thievery (progressive taxation) is OK, let's feed the poor? I think not. As He said, we will always have the poor, but the moral degradation of his Church and people should not be tolerated. Joel, the self identified "radical" has not changed since his college days. I find it interesting that, now that a liberal Democrat is in the White House, liberal Democrats tell me that I shouldn't categorize people and "put them in a box". With the stroke of a pen, can make abortion legal throughout the nation. By opening his mouth, he can epitomize partisanship by telling Republicans to shut up because he won the election. The Savior abhorred hypocrisy and, in my view, wouldn't be happy with the President. As someone previously said, access does not mean influence. I've yet to see any Christian, or spiritual influence in any of Obama's policies, not now, not ever.

What a HUGE disappointment Joel Hunter has become. One gets the sense that if President Obama ordered that all the babies in the country be aborted, Joel would be on CNN the next day to tell us all why this was a great idea. He has such a huge crush on the President that he has lost all objectivity. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a government housing project raised by a God-fearing divorced mother of three young children. Because of this I know that FAITH, FREEDOM and HARDWORK are the keys to a successful life. President Obama's ideas are totally contrary to these and his administration will enslave more people in poverty, dependence on government and despair. My family and I have left Northland for good but will contnue to pray for Joel. He and Northland on going down the wrong path.
