Mark Driscoll needs a hobby.

As much as I respect Driscoll for some of his teaching, he's turned the hipster-fundamentalist over-reaction into an artform.

And yes, he's a fundamentalist.
"I'm not a fundamentalist! Some of my best friends watch demonic movies about other demonic planets!"

I really like Jeffrey Overstreet though and I'm looking forward to friday!

Driscoll is right. The only way such a lame movie with a lame, boring story could be so popular is Satan.

although most of the time i disagree w/ mark, i see where he's coming from.. it's the WAY he's saying it is what gets him in trouble… when i saw avatar in the theater, i loved the film, but couldn't ignore the blatant new-agey message… it got to the point in the film where i was thinking "OK I GET THE POINT CAMERON!!!" now, am i gonna go ahead and call it demonic? no.. does it make me want to turn away from Jesus and connect w/ nature instead? no… however, it's pretty hard to pretend that there isn't a new-age message behind it.. just as we christians have our message show through films like narnia, etc, i believe cameron is putting his worldview into avatar… it's still a great movie though…

Yeah, I agree with the new agey type plot, but calling it the most demonic movie ever? Give me a break. Also, I agree with Justin (sort of). The story isn't that good, or should I say original. It reminded me of Dances with Wolves. Visually the movie was outstanding.

I saw something really funny online where someone took a plot summary of Pocahontas and crossed out various names and wrote in those of Avatar…. and it worked perfectly. I laughed a lot.

Justin Crandall March 5th, 2010

Erik, how could you watch that boring movie 3 times! Man, I was rooting for the marines.

You know how Cameron supposedly waited 14 years for the movie to catch up? Yeah that's when he saw Dances with Wolves.

Hey don't forget that Cameron was behind the Lost Tomb of Jesus! So he IS satanic. :-)

Bill March 7th, 2010

Welcome to the human race Mark Driscoll. He made a mistake, so what? He made himself sound like a complete idiot, so what? He's part of the body…we're to love him in the profound as well as stupid statements. What's scarier than Mark Driscoll's statements is the church's response. Christ compared us to sheep…if we all had the same airtime as Mark Driscoll I'm sure we all would make similar asses of ourselves once in a while.

Regular Jeff March 8th, 2010

Bill, good point. I agree with you. Although, it does make me feel better about my own short comings to point out mistakes in others. :-P

G-Sauce March 11th, 2010

even though i don't agree w/ driscoll and could care less for what he says, i still would prefer him over people like brian mclaren… at least you know where he stands..

actually, now that i think about it, avatar closely resembles emergent theology.. but i think at least the blue people are more direct as to what they believe…

the emergents are more confusing than a david lynch film on acid…

I've messaged you before, Erik, on this, but I still would love to hear Steve interview Paul Miller (A Praying Life) and Paul Tripp (especially as Steve's endorsed several of his books).

I really would love to hear an extended conversation between Steve and Eugene Peterson, whom I'm really getting into right now.
