Finding Joy in Fatherhood – Jay Payleitner on SBE

Erik Guzman June 18th, 2010

52 Things Kids Need from a DadEvery kid needs their dad to teach them the word "Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis."

Dad also needs to catch his kids in a big fat lie, wake them up for a lunar eclipse, get right with his own dad, and 48 other things that make a lifelong difference.

Join us for this Father's Day edition of Steve Brown Etc. as we laugh and learn life-lessons with Jay Payleitner, author of the book 52 Things Kids Need from a Dad: What Fathers Can Do to Make a Lifelong Difference.

Jay is a dad, freelance writer, ad man, speaker, creativity trainer and radio producer. His producing credits include Josh McDowell Radio, Jesus Freaks Radio and Today's Father with Carey Casey. Check out Jay's weekly dad blog at Fathers52.com.

Also, for more Father's Day stuff, don't miss our interview with Donald Miller. We talk about his book Father Fiction, The Mentoring Project and more.

I was so glad that Jay made the reference about entering our children's world and experiencing it with them. I have realized now that I have 3 adult children, that for what ever reason, that was my approach to fatherhood. I was in many ways just a big kid who was down on the floor with them building Legos and reading Narnia to them and being part of their world. And although I had no awareness of it at the time it hit me today…didn't the Master say to us…"unless we have hearts like a little child" (paraphrase) we can't know the kingdom….how ironic…how absolutely perfect as a reflection on fatherhood. It is the one decision in my life that I have absolutely no regrets about, the choice to be a father. Good show guys, really good show
