The End of God & Christianity? – Schlichting & "Fuz" on SBE

Erik Guzman June 25th, 2010

Synthetic LifeChristianity is in decline in the west, and that may be just what the doctor ordered. Randy Schlichting says it enables us to step aside from power brokering and move towards living by four minority rules.

Join us as we talk with Randy about his book Minority Rules: Size Does Not Determine Success.

Then, Dr. Fazale "Fuz" Rana from Reasons to Believe stops by to talk about the world's first synthetic cell engineered by scientists. If humans can "create" life, who needs God?

Is this the end of God and Christianity as we know it? Don't miss this edition of Steve Brown Etc.

One Response to “The End of God & Christianity? – Schlichting & "Fuz" on SBE”

Life As We Know It (to be or not to be?)

I listened to your most recent broadcast a couple of times, both segments. And I find a spiritually ironic connection between the segments.

First of all in segment two, despite references to whether or not you are talking about 'artificial life', Buzz confirmed that we are not talking about artificial life. We are talking about modifying a current 'kind' of life form. Why the subversive attempt to impose another reason to believe, in something else?

And I do agree that this does help to prove 'intelligent design', but for centuries there has been research like this which has been very productive in improving the plant and animal life on this planet. All within the confines of 'after their own kinds'. This adjustment of God's Intelligent Design is not only induced by mankind but also occurs naturally. And costs a lot less – and is not about humanists/progressives devising their own ways to live longer, hopefully even eternally.

If we look at the life of Jacob and particularly Genesis 30, roughly 1750 BC (I wish you guys would reference Scripture more) we see the incident of the spotted sheep, which even today these sheep are known for their superior traits. This incident kind of highlights the purpose of Jacob's life: to breed a superior people, ready to withstand the onslaught of the Devil's attacks on God's purposes and to influence the world around them.

This brings me to segment one. Sounds like the purpose of this segment is about our 'lack of influence' in the world. Wasn't always that way you know. Sure it has ebbed and flowed over time, but within my recent memory I witnessed a time when the Bible was revered as a Book of meaning and testimony, and at least the Ten Commandments were respected not only in the culture but also in the halls of justice and politics, and schools.

I am not saying that more people may be salvaged, that is 'way above my pay grade'. But I believe the Church is called to breed a superior kind of sheep that is able to influence the culture around us, that it may go well with us (Deut 4:40). Segment one sounds more like either the Babylonians or the Romans are marching down the Valley of Vision towards Jerusalem and all are pretty sure that the walls of the great city will protect them.

Finally, this is all about Genesis 1 and 2 which does demonstrate the awesome 'creative' ability of God, His purpose, and Absolute ownership of the universe. And if we really study the makeup of the universe (material and biological) we see that all had to be made together, there are too many interdependencies. And there are too many interdependencies in the Church: compromise with any other system only weakens our defenses and brings defeat and shame to the fold.
