Joe and Melissa,
I started listening to your podcasts when I discovered Watching the Directors. At the time I was serving on active duty in the Navy, but I had aspirations to become a motion picture director after my contract expired. I yearned for someone to discuss movies with on multiple levels.
Enter Joe and Melissa. I discovered Watching the Directors and quickly downloaded all of the back episodes. I listened to you guys while riding the train to and from work in Yokosuka, Japan. I listened to you guys on deployments in the middle of the ocean. I listened to you guys while cooking and cleaning. You were the gateway podcast to open my eyes to other great film podcasts, and you were a catalyst for me to not only analyze films better but also to discuss my analysis with other cinefiles.
I made the jump to Watching Theology with you guys. I continued to enjoy your discussions and your insight. Fast forward to present day. While I have never met you in person, I feel like we became close friends. You were there during some stressful times to discuss films with me. Now I'm out of the Navy attending film school. I wrote an analytical essay on the F. W. Murnau film Nosferatu and had it selected for publication in my school's literary journal. I'm getting closer to achieving my dreams, but part of that is due to you being there with your podcast(s) to keep my mind focussed. It's like we have lost touch with each other though now that you're not doing the podcast that often.
I miss listening to you guys! Please do another episode! There are so many interesting films I would love to get your perspective on.
