The Gospel of Amazement – Michael Card on SBE

Erik Guzman April 29th, 2011

Michael CardAre you sick of religion? Desperate to experience God, but find yourself uninspired by the same tired old Bible stories you've been hearing since you were a kid? Michael Card has just what the doctor ordered…Luke's gospel of amazement!

Join Michael on Steve Brown Etc. as we talk about the power imagination has to make the Scriptures come alive by bridging the chasm between our hearts and minds.

Michael Card has sold over 4 million records and has written over 19 number one hits. He has authored or co-authored more than 19 books and he's recorded over 23 albums. Not bad for someone who just wanted to quietly teach the Bible (got a little sidetracked there).

Michael gets back on track with his new book that he co-authored with God, Luke: The Gospel of Amazement. Listen as we talk about that and hear selections from his companion CD to the book, Luke: A World Turned Upside Down.

Sorry to be so late on this one. We were driving up north for 2 weeks dodging tornadoes, floods, and seeing the aftermath of the carnage and noticing all the billboards trumpeting that May 21 is judgment day. These things along with the Japan earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster cause me to wonder if May 21 could be real, or at least a sobering warning. At least we got the number one terrorist; one down and at least a million to go.

Just like in the days of Noah. Fire when ready…

I wonder if Harold Camping factored in the leap year days into his calculations. The real surprise would be Jesus' return on the 22nd, amidst all the disappointments and scoffing.

We did listen to some Family Radio in our travels and aside from Harold's latest attempt to 'set a date', the local stations affiliated with Family Radio were continuing to be of service to their communities with news, weather, personalized traffic reporting, public service programs, and excellent Christian programming and music. I would suspect that donations of support, which are still being solicited, would still be in order.

And this am I did listen to etc and I really appreciated Michael's 'dealing' with Scripture. Of course I was playing solitaire at the time and I was noticing that a deck of cards does have a certain number of cards and that there are four suits (Mt, Mk, Lu, Jn) and two colors (OT and NT) and it is really helpful to keep track of what and how many cards have been exposed to understand the flow of each game and the possibilities that become available to us.

Nothing like understanding the context and meaning of Scripture to understand the game of life. May not be able to stop all the bad things, but at least we understand the outcome and hopefully be enough of a good influence to marginalize the curse we are all under.

Last week I did offer a free cd of Ussher's Annals of the World with no takers. I did send one cd to Mark Graham earlier, but I have yet to hear from him. Maybe?

On this same cd was an analysis of the four Gospels: a suggested order of events along with side by side Scriptures of parallel events. The item about the Centurion from Luke 7 has a parallel account in Matthew 8 with some additional insights.

The Parable of the Sower really fascinates me. There are 3 accounts and Luke's (8) is especially fascinating and revealing.

We really do have to compare Scripture with Scripture to gain understanding and confidence in God's Word. All 66 Books.

'pro6000@juno.com'; still free and it does not cost me anything but a stamp. Just not sure how many cards are left in 'the big deck'.
