Because it is literally impossible to shake a Conspiracy Theory Belief. Any evidence against The Conspiracy is Disinformation Planted by The Conspiracy. Any lack of evidence for The Conspiracy is Proof The Conspiracy is so Vast THEY Can Silence Anybody (Conspiracy True Believer excluded).

C.S.Lewis described the attitude in Chronicles of Narnia: The Last Battle:

"WE WON'T BE TAKEN IN! THE DWARFS ARE FOR THE DWARFS! WE WON'T BE TAKEN IN!"

And so afraid are they of being taken in, they can never be taken out. Eating Conspiracy garbage in their filthy stable...

As I've dealt with people who believe in conspiracy theories, I've come to the conclusion that they need to be de-programmed just like cult members. You cannot get through to them by pointing out inconvenient facts or inconsistencies. It's amazing.

Thank you for this excellent post. I'm surprised you didn't mention all of the Y2K hysteria that took over so many churches in the late 90s. These kinds of fads end up destroying faith.
