To Mike:

If you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior, I urge you not to feel guilty. What is guilty? Guilty is the verdict right before sentencing. It implies that we deserve to be punished. Yet as followers of Christ, our punishment was paid for by Him on the cross. By feeling guilty, you are saying to Jesus that the price He paid for your sin was not enough, and you need to compensate by paying some of the punishment yourself. While conviction is a realization of our sin from the Spirit which leads us into awareness of our need for a Savior and a desire to live in a manner glorifying to Him, condemnation is NOT from God. Romans 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." If you truly trust that Christ's sacrifice was sufficient, you should not feel guilty at all, and the true God does not make his children feel guilty about anything.

As a pastor/teacher I have wanted to just turn in my Bible and go off to an lsland somewhere, like Robinson Crusoe many times. Maybe I am crazy, like i've been told, but I see God in everything around us. Take a good look at a flower. For what purpose were they made? Why does the mockingbird sing so beautifully, or the nightingale? The only logical reason I can find is to give credit for all they have to our Creator.
Either God is in EVERYTHING or He is in nothing. I got up this morning because His compassion and mercies are renewed every morning (Lam. 3:22-23)

Thanks, Steve. Once again, you've reminded me of something simple, yet profound. Something that makes me smile because what you say resonates. Sometimes, I've lived my life as though God didn't exist and it weren't all true. But, when it comes down to it, and I come crawling back, He's always there. How many humans can you say THAT about? And, fact is, it would be really convenient if it weren't true, because I would feel less guilty. My made-up God would never make me feel guilty about anything.

I loved this blog. Thank you for it.

It reminded me of a person who once told me that God was just my imaginary friend, and I realized, and said, that if I had an imaginary friend, it would be very different. The Friend would think everything I did was awesome. Instead I have God, who sometimes interrupts my planned prayer list and says, "Nice, but I want to talk about this other thing going on in your life..." or "I want you to really look at how you treated that lady at church today."

I told that person it's one of the clearest ways I've known there is a God--His agenda is much different from mine and the things He requires (like repentance) are things I would probably never choose on my own. And yet, His ways are right and end with good things I would have missed otherwise.
