Steve's on

They lied to you about being a Christian.

When you first "joined the club" they promised you'd be set free. But let's get honest, you're not free. In fact, you're religious, afraid, guilty, and bound. What's worse, now that you've been in the club a while, you're stuck pretending you're better than you are. And worse than that, you prefer the security and rules of your self-imposed boundaries.

It's time for a change. You need Scandalous Freedom.

On the Scandalous Freedom Podcast, Steve Brown disabuses you of your confusion about freedom, grace and forgiveness. Real Christianity calls us to live beyond the boundaries, bolstered by the assurance that we cannot fall beyond God's love. And real freedom…that's just plain scandalous.

The Enemies We Demonize

Erik Guzman August 20th, 2007

"If I were a gravedigger, or even a hangman, there are some people I could work for with a great deal of pleasure." -Douglas Jerrold

If the liberals are destroying your faith, if the gays are destroying the foundations of the family, if the apostate Christians are destroying the Church, if the warmongering conservatives are destroying the world, and if you have to do battle with them all…you can't just be the person God created you to be.

You have to become a soldier! You h … (Read More)

Guilt and Isolation

Erik Guzman August 13th, 2007

When a Christian leader acts as if he or she has a hotline to God and knows all, don't listen to that leader. You'll end up suffering under tremendous guilt. What's more, when you affirm that kind of nonsense in a leader, you subject him or her to a prison where it's impossible to be free.

On this week's Scandalous Freedom Podcast, Steve discusses the plagues of Guilt and Isolation that result from putting people on pedestals.

The Punishing Plagues of Putting People on Pedestals

Erik Guzman August 6th, 2007

When we worship at the altar of another human being, we chain ourselves (and our idol) to unattainable expectations that destroy our freedom to risk, think, feel, and be who God created us to be. Wars have been fought, churches have been divided and damaged, and Christians have been manipulated, bound, and hurt, all because we worshiped at some imperfect person's pedestal.

Join Steve Brown for a look at the plagues of Irresponsibility and Disservice that result from deifying authority figu … (Read More)

Masks and Gurus

Erik Guzman July 30th, 2007

There are no super-Christians and, if you've found one, you have demeaned yourself. What's more, once you have demeaned yourself by finding a "guru," you subject yourself to a prison of shame, guilt, and impossible expectations.

On this edition of the Scandalous Freedom Podcast, Steve not only reveals the truth behind our masks, he de-masks the people we deify.

The Power to Stop Pretending

Erik Guzman July 23rd, 2007

One of the greatest tragedies in the lives of Christians is that, in many cases, our most dishonest hour of the week is the hour we spend at church. We wear masks of unreality, superiority, negativity, and acceptability. Too often, we've been wearing masks so long, we don't even know our real selves (or one another).

You may think that if they really knew you, they would kick you out…so the best thing to do is to just keep on pretending. But that's a lie that will keep yo … (Read More)

The Masks We Wear

Erik Guzman July 16th, 2007

"Do you wish to be great? Then begin by being." -St. Augustine

There is a direct correlation between our proclivity to wear masks and God's proclivity to rip them off. That can be a painful process, but He does it because He loves us. Pretending we're something other than what we are may make us feel better for a while; but ultimately, the masks we wear bind us to roles that will kill us.
