Show DescriptionEtcetera

Hodge Podge

Erik Guzman May 30th, 2007

What a show this week! Mark and his wife Jamie joined us in the studio bearing gifts. Thanks again guys (and sorry about last night). The Dorsey brothers made an appearance. Fancy Geoff dropped by with a story about his crabs (so funny). And one of our favorite Canadians, Gordo, was here promising to give me a good ol' fashion billeting when I get up to Toronto later this week.

Click the play button below to hang out with us.

Also, Sharon introduced us to Desktop Tower Defense and started an Etcetera group. Come on over and see if you can beat Tim's high score. Just click here and type in Etcetera to see the scoreboard.

Hit the subscribe button above and we'll come over to your computer every week for more whatnot.

Oh Erik, breath spray wont make you Canadian… Hasn't Bob and Doug McKenzie tought us anything…. drinking Canadian beer does :)

greg from canada May 30th, 2007

possibly beer breath spray will, will have to check with Bob and Doug on that one….

dorsey May 30th, 2007

I think the secret of the Canadian breath spray is that is sticks the inside of your cheeks to your side teeth, so that when you say "sorry," it sounds like "sore-y."

Joshua May 31st, 2007

Don't spray too much of that stuff Erik. I know its seems very alluring and mysterious to be Canadian but if you're not careful you could end up Alanis Morrisette. I don't think I have to tell you why that's a bad thing.

greg from canada May 31st, 2007

Shhh… we try to keep it quiet that she is Canadian…. her and Celine Dion… unfortunately with a name like Celine Dion its hard to say she isnt Canadian…. Luckily for us she is in Vegas, it gives our ears a rest for a while….

Joshua May 31st, 2007

Well, on the plus side you do have the Decemberists and Boards of Canada and the Stills and evidently Sttepenwolf (according to Wikipedia) so I guess that cancels out Celine, Allanis, and Barenaked Ladies. We can't really say anything. We've produced Michael Jackson, INSYNC, and Robert Gooooolay! Not our finest moments.

Jordan (w.m.s.n.b.s) May 31st, 2007

Being a Cadadian, isn't that legal in Vegas?

Mark May 31st, 2007

I hope that when Celine goes to Vegas, she stays in Vegas.

Joshua May 31st, 2007

i hear they're hiring clowns over at Circus Circus.

Mike May 31st, 2007

What in the world could you find wrong with Alanis?

señor jefe May 31st, 2007

Take off, eh… Barenaked Ladies are great! One of my all-time favorite, fun concerts!

Fancy Geoff June 1st, 2007

Oh, I see! Now the're my crabs, huh?

P.S. I agree with Jefe: A BNL show is great fun.

Mike June 1st, 2007

You hoser….

Wait, is that profain in Canadian?

greg from canada June 1st, 2007

BNL are great! I see no one is sticking up Celine :)

señor jefe June 1st, 2007

No need to stick up for Celine. I think she's already pretty stuck up…

Joshua June 1st, 2007

Hey Jefe…if you like your music brainy you ought to check out They Might Be Giants. I don't dislike BNL but you have to admit the glare off their pocket protectors can be a little blinding.

greg from canada June 1st, 2007

The only song of they might be giants that I like was particle man…. or person man… or whatever that song is called… not a bad group though…

Joshua June 1st, 2007

"Build a Little Bird House In Your Soul"…never bad advice.

señor jefe June 1st, 2007

I have one They Might Be Giants CD. It's pretty good.

But what makes BNL so great is not their recorded music, but their live concerts. They are tremendously creative and absolutely brilliant when they begin ad-lib singing and rapping.

When I saw them in concert, they started making up raps based on the signs hanging in the venue. It was a riot!

I also thought they were nerdy, until that live show. Now they're one of my favorites.

Joshua June 1st, 2007

"What up y'all there's a bathroom over there. Its really stinky though so enter if you dare" Something like that? No, I've heard other people say the same thing about their live show. You have to admit they are great lyricist even if you don't like the music.

Joshua June 1st, 2007

Hey Jefe! Here's another…"The Allan Parsons Project will be playing here in Autumn. If you're irritated rub our ointment on your bottom". You gotta lay one of dem' raps on me bruttha! I'm struggling over here.

Particle man, particle man
Doing the things a particle can
What's he like? It's not important
Particle man

Is he a dot, or is he a speck?
When he's underwater does he get wet?
Or does the water get him instead?
Nobody knows, Particle man

Triangle man, Triangle man
Triangle man hates particle man
They have a fight, Triangle wins
Triangle man

Universe man, Universe man
Size of the entire universe, man
Usually kind to smaller man
Universe man

He's got a watch with a minute hand,
Millennium hand and an eon hand
When they meet it's a happy land
Powerful man, universe man

Person man, person man
Hit on the head with a frying pan
Lives his life in a garbage can
Person man

Is he depressed or is he a mess?
Does he feel totally worthless?
Who came up with person man?
Degraded man, person man

Triangle man, triangle man
Triangle man hates person man
They have a fight, triangle wins
Triangle man

Last one, I promise. My favorite TMBG song….

I returned a bag of groceries
Accidently taken off the shelf
Before the expiration date
I came back as a bag of groceries
Accidently taken off the shelf
Before the date stamped on myself

Did a large procession wave their (did a)
Torches as my head fell in the basket, (large pro-)
And was everybody dancing on the casket? (cession dance?)

Now it's over i'm dead and i haven't done anything that i want (now it's over)
Or, i'm still alive and there's nothing i want to do

I will never say the word
"procrastinate" again; i'll never
See myself in the mirror with my eyes closed
I didn't apologize for
When i was eight and i made my younger brother
Have to be my personal slave

Did a large procession wave their (did a)
Torches as my head fell in the basket, (large pro-)
And was everybody dancing on the casket? (cession dance?)

Now it's over i'm dead and i haven't done anything that i want (now it's over)
Or, i'm still alive and there's nothing i want to do

(so) so i won't
(sit) sit at home
(and) anymore
(and) and you won't
(and) see my head in
(and) the window
(and) and i won't
(and) be around
(and) ever anymore
(and) and i'll be up there on the wall at the store

I returned a bag of groceries
Accidently taken off the shelf
Before the expiration date
I came back as a bag of groceries
Accidently taken off the shelf
Before the date stamped on myself

Did a large procession wave their (did a)
Torches as my head fell in the basket, (large pro-)
And was everybody dancing on the casket? (cession dance?)

Now it's over i'm dead and i haven't done anything that i want (now it's over)
Or, i'm still alive and there's nothing i want to do

Now it's over i'm dead and i haven't done anything that i want (now it's over)
Or, i'm still alive and there's nothing i want to do

Anna Ing is my personal favorite TMBG song. Also, there's something magical about watching MST3K and listening to TMBG while eating alphabet soup all at the same time.

Jordan (w.m.s.n.b.s) June 1st, 2007

I like bare naked ladies too. Huh, oh, you mean the band? Aren't they Canadian?

Jordan (w.m.s.n.b.s) June 4th, 2007

It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood
A beautiful day for a neighbor
Would you be mine
Could you be mine

It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood
A neighborly day for a beauty
Would you be mine
Could you be mine

I've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with you

So, let's make the most of this beautiful day
Since we're together we might as well say
Would you be mine, could you be mine
Won't you be my neighbor
Won't you please, won't you please
Please won't you be my neighbor

- "Its a Beautiful Day in this Neighborhood", Fred Rogers

Mike June 9th, 2007

TMBG are way cool, I got a chance to see them live last year, very nice. I like Particle man but what about the Sun song, I've got a fang, or Wicked little Critter. My favorite I think is, It's so loud in here.
