Puppet Show

Sock it to me!Sure we wish we could be doing real ministry, but for some reason God's H.R. folks have placed us here in the Buffoonery Department. However, the next best thing to actually serving Jesus is, of course, promoting people who do.

Today on Etcetera, we talked with Jamie Moffett, co-founder (along with Shane Claiborne) of The Simple Way community in inner-city Philadelphia. One month ago, a 7-alarm fire destroyed their community center/house and many of their neighbors' houses. Jamie stopped by to tell us how the rebuilding/resurrection efforts are going and how you can get involved.

Help transform the abandoned warehouse where the fire started, into a park for the neighborhood. Sign the petition today to make it possible.

We also talked about Another World Is Possible and Potter Street Records. A big thank you to Potter Street Records' the psalters, for providing music for the show! Click here to get two of their albums free (music from Us vs. US was used on the program). Then make a donation to keep the hippie love tunes-fest flowing.

Don't be deceived, Christian Buffoonery is a ministry. Many people are turned off to Christ by overly serious, legalistic "christians". Seeing loving, honest chritians having fun can make a huge difference to people who haven't yet separated Christ from those who call themselves Christian. While I had met some of these people before listening to you guys, I'm drawn toward Christians who can both speak truth and have fun, because I see them as far more important than given credit.

So be encouraged. The fact that Jesus loves you guys shows he has a sense of humour!

Now, I'll listen to the show and find out if my comment makes me look stupid.

First off, I agree with Chemical Erik.

Second, congrats on the Jeff/Geoff/Jefe trifecta! *applause*

Think of yourselves as the court jesters in the Kingdom of God.

I beleive it is written somewhere in a Psalm that "Blessed are the buffoonerists for they keep us from taking ourselves too seriously, they are comassionate to others and entertain". You guys do a great job and definately have a good ministry here.

Shelly - Are you agreeing with Bufoonery being a ministry or me looking stupid?

I'd like to add a congrat's to the 3 of a kind. I wish I could have called in and made it a full house (3 Jeff's and 2 Erik's).

Actually, we should have a Buffoonery Czar as a cabinet-level post in the government. They would be responsible for ensuring that buffoonery is spread far and wide.

In fact, I believe it's a matter of national security. I mean, can you imagine the effect on al Queda if we could get an Islamic version of Etcetera to take hold in the Middle East? They would be too busy laughing to hate anyone. They would welcome us with sock puppets and robot monkey heads. The world would finally be safe for all mankind.

Or - they just might blow us up.

greg from canada July 22nd, 2007

A buffoonery Czar might be a good idea… though they don't stike me as having the best sense of humor

Wayne July 22nd, 2007

Sure - the show would need to be adapted to the local culture - in the interest of relevance.

For instance, the cast names would need to change. Erik would become Muqtada the Mirthful Mufti, Sharon would be Fatima the Fitful Sufi, and Matt would be Hakim the Comedy Jihadi.

But the basic message of buffoonery would remain the same.

Agreeing that Buffoonery is a ministry. :)

Funniest show ever!

Acting like fools has been shunned too long for being foolish. I think its time that that changed. What's more addictive than laughter. You guys are celebrating Jesus!

Yeah there is a serious side of Christianity, but I figure that side is pretty much covered. SO LETS PARTY!

Disclaimer: I do NOT support unscrupulous billeting, over use of alchol, any use of drugs, or any abuses of robotic monkey heads.

Erik July 24th, 2007

Disclaimer on Jordan (w.m.s.n.b.s)'s Disclaimer: We do NOT use illegal drugs — drugs that aren't prescribed to us (or at the very least prescribed to a close relative). And by "use" of course I mean recently. And by "recently" I mean… Hey look, a robot monkey head!

Great show, guys. One of the best ever! I laughed out loud at so many things. This is the stuff dreams are made of! :)
