A Million Miles - Donald Miller on SBE

Erik Guzman October 16th, 2009

Don on the bus goes up and down.Join Donald Miller on Steve Brown Etc. as we discuss his new book, A Million Miles in a Thousand Years: What I Learned While Editing My Life.

(If you're on the front page of the site click "Read More" to see audio player options.)

One catch, our connection was so bad that Don might as well have been a million miles away. We only had him for a short time. But don't let that stop you from listening. We had a great discussion about the new book and the impact it can have as we begin to edit our own lives.

Donald Miller is also the author of Blue Like Jazz, To Own A Dragon, Searching for God Knows What and Through Painted Deserts. He's currently on tour promoting A Million Miles in a Thousand Years. Also, don't miss Susan Isaacs' post from the million mile tour bus in the SBE Guest Room.

This response has nothing to do with a million miles. We may not have that much time. However, I was praying that Mr Miller would stop by the Creation Museum near Cincinnati. Maybe he felt that intellectual curiosity was more important than wearing out one's shoes on a million mile march to find God. Six thousand miles is more productive.
Erik #2, thanks for finally responding to my equal time for AIG challenge. Coming out of your shell shows that you are on the way to maturity. I am still praying that you will reconsider an AIG interview. They are already at the Creation Museum.

My coworker asked me about when did Erik #2 responded to my AIG Challenge. It is now off somewhere in cyberspace. He basically said ‘NO!’. That is okay. That is his decision. However, the other day I had this first class idea. We must take advantage of these first class ideas; makes us first class people for God.

I was browsing through AIG’s first class website (http://www.answersingenesis.org/) and saw a boxed DVD set of ‘Ultimate Apologetics’: ‘astrophysicist Dr. Jason Lisle reveals how to defend Genesis against all criticism’. Judging from what I have seen of AIG and Dr Lisle, this will be a first class work. You really should see the first class museum.

I thought, I can purchase this work, view the first DVD, and sent it to Erik #2. He can then have more information in making a first class determination of ‘what is truth’. How much more fair can I make this? Of course I will send it first class.

If you want to see more Erik #2, okay. If you want to send it to Erik #1, that is good too. Otherwise, I can come and get it; saving you first class postage. Please do not throw it away. If you want me to forget the whole thing, let me know. We have a few days. We can do this in a first class way.

Thanks Erik #2

Erik #2, thanks for finally responding to my equal time for AIG challenge. Coming out of your shell shows that you are on the way to maturity.

Bruce,

I think your coworker was right. I don't think I've responded to any challenges. However, I will now come out of my shell and proceed toward maturity.

We had a young earth guy on along with Dr. Ross. I can't remember his name and he may have been from AIG. They debated the issue on-air. Ross won and now he's our go-to science guy. To the victor goes the spoils.

That's not to say we won't have AIG guys on. I'm all for that. Heck, I'm pretty sure Steve still buys the whole young earth thing. He might appreciate the validation.

How am I doing on the maturity scale?

You are a ten in my book. Sorry, just to many Eriks I suppose. I will post what I saw below just to show I am not crazy.

Thanks for the first class response. I suppose the DVD deal is not a done deal? Would be nice to verify who you saw from AIG and to double check the score board? Thanks Erik #2

Ah, this is Eric #5? below, my apologies… I will be more careful, now that I see your maturity. I just have to work on my own… Eric #5 needs some work to . Have you heard from Eric #1 (Chemical that is?)

Equal time for AIG? American Christian pop and church culture is saturated, across the board and up & down the line, with books, preachers, radio programs, and even songs (e.g., remember the line from Geoff Moore's mid-1990's CCM hit "Evolution": "Big-Bang fiction that we factualize"?) espousing young-earth creationism — often rabidly so. YEC representatives have publicly raked Dr. Ross over the coals as a "heretic" or "apostate," despite the fact the clear passion of his heart and of his ministry RTB is pointing people to Jesus Christ; yet in over 18 years of following and supporting his ministry, I have never heard him respond in kind to these vicious attacks. Dr. Ross, were he less humble, might justifiably borrow a line from Rush Limbaugh: "I AM equal time!"

Did you send me a DVD, or are you offering to send one? Either way, I'd love to take a look.

Bruce Szwast October 22nd, 2009

God Bless You, my son. I have yet to get them - I have every confidence - and review them (4 I think). We will try it…
Now I can go back to work too…
