I understand the parakeet thing, but I've seen little rats feeding with sparrows before too.

I really appreciate Scot McKnight's perspective on homosexuality - faithful to Scripture, true to grace. This has been an ongoing topic of conversation between my husband and I; and Mr. Mcknight's view seems to be identical to what my husband has been struggling to explain to me. We've done much to contribute to the alienation of the homosexual community with our us vs. them mentality - as if we Christians had all ceased to be sinners. I've had to wrestle with the conflicting messages I hear in the church and the strong sympathy I feel toward the gay community.

Thanks for tackling these difficult issues head on.

I have a dear friend who is a christian and has struggled with her sexual identity for years. She hates traditional churches and the smugness of the typical christian as it relates to the issues that homosexuals struggle with. In so many cases historical events in a religious context and spiritual, physical, and/or sexual abuse in our own churches are often at the root of these dear saints' struggles. Part of loving these brothers and sisters involves embracing them and accepting the validity of their struggles; grieving and raging with them at the egregious sins of others that wounded them so deeply that they reject who they are at such a deep level.
