Think I'll take both.

On one hand, telling unbelievers that things go better with Jesus is either manipulative or bad theology. It's not what Jesus said.

On the other hand, I find that if I'm trying to do something better I really don't do it better until I move past just thinking about what I'm doing wrong and work on doing it right.

I listen to Greg Laurie on radio and podcast. Time and time again Greg Laurie emphasizes that Jesus is the only way to the Father. His primary message is: whoever believes in Jesus will have their sins forgiven.

Jordan,

I'd like to point out that I've never denied being full of crap. To the contrary, I've made my fullness of crap quite obvious.

And nobody here ever said sin isn't bad or that God said it's OK to screw up your life. It's just that sin is not central to my interaction with God (all 3 of Him). Sin has been dealt with. Get on with your life and quit obsessing on sin. If you do, you'll sin less (and that's a good thing).

You may sin, but you're not identified by God as a "sinner." You are a loved, free child of His, just like Jesus (one with Jesus in fact - body of Christ and all that). Dwell on the wonder of that and you'll do the works Jesus did. Keep focused on sin and you'll get more sin.

And remember, I'm full of crap.

Mom, dad, stop fighting! Are you going to get a divorce?

I've been sitting here between cheap grace and cheap legality for far too long. Geeze, when are you guys going to learn that you are both full of crap! Sin is bad--very, very bad! I Hate my sin! But anyone who has truely, heartfully, fought against sin, knows one thing beyond all else. We are completely inadequate to fight the filth that is within us, and there is no magical empowerment that comes along when you become a Christian. If you say there is, then I guess I'm not doing it right, because I'm still a sinner. I trust that God has redeemed me in the sacrifice of Christ. But if I really think about it, I wouldn't want to worship a God that says that its OK for me to sin. Sin is NOT OK! Hell is not some cosmic, eternal Rikers. Hell is the destruction brought upon one's self by there very own sin. I don't want to go to hell, but I also don't want to go to heaven as a sinner. Thankfully, I beleive, that I don't have to do either. Do you not see what imputed righteousness is? Its not simple a pardon from Hell. Its a repeated renewal of our very souls. And its free, really free!

"Jesus sacrificed Himself to save you from His Father's Wrath! "

my first impression when i hear that is an abusive husband about to whip his kid's a$$ and the loving mom intervening, begging for him to calm down...

the theology of ike turner.... wow...

"I needed an angry Father God who wants to punish me forever in Hell and a self-sacrificial Son God Who won't let Him (as long as I believe in the mercy of the wrathful God)."

and what's worse is when you have a washed up child sitcom actor using his "ministry" to spread such "good news"...

Wow Patrick. It all makes so much sense now. Your post makes it crystal clear.

What my Christianity was missing was a schizophrenic God.

I needed an angry Father God who wants to punish me forever in Hell and a self-sacrificial Son God Who won't let Him (as long as I believe in the mercy of the wrathful God).

Thank you Patrick. This makes all the difference. Keep preaching the pure Gospel brother.

So you think Greg is preaching a biblical gospel? Where did Jesus even once say "You have a God shaped hole in your heart that only I can fill."? or when did Jesus say, "You need me to make your life better, after all isn't that what I came to do?"
Friends, all "snarkiness" aside, we can't accept a watered down mealy-mouthed gospel presentation that only seeks to save people from bad debt or a bad marriage and whose sole aim seems only to line the pockets of the preacher or bolster his pride at his "numbers.". Jesus didn't come to save you from your miserable life! Jesus sacrificed Himself to save you from His Father's Wrath! Our sins is what makes us an enemy of God. Jesus came to reconcile us to Him! What Greg preaches is NOT reconciliation to God but rather a "things go better with Jesus" message!
So, yes, Greg ensured thousands were false converts with his false gospel. The only saving done at his crusades had nothing to do with anything Greg Laurie said or did. There wa sno preaching on the anger of god over sin, no explanation fo what sin is, no reminder of Judgment Day and the Hell to come for all who refuse the mercy of God in Jesus alone.
Would I like to see Greg use the Law to explain what sin is so people see WHY they need Jesus and come to a SAVING knowledge of Christ in repentance and Faith in Jesus? ABSOLUTELY!
Would I like JUST ONCE to hear Greg bring the knowledge of sin to a self-righteous person? YES!
And when he starts doing that then I will be very glad!
Until then I will continue to denounce him and all other preachers whose tickling lies only ensure another soul's damnation - AND SO SHOULD YOU!
