Restoring the Gulf Coast - Lagniappe Church on SBE

Curt Moore and Jean LarrouxWhen Jean Larroux and Curt Moore surveyed the damage on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, instead of leaving after their relief effort, they started a church in the desolation.

Lagniappe Church is still there. Their goal? Nothing short of participation in the restoration of creation through the declaration and demonstration of the love of God.

Now, after Hurricane Gustav, in addition to rebuilding, Lagniappe is serving as a Red Cross shelter. Curt and Jean took some time from housing refugees and building houses to talk about their incredible story on this week's SBE. Use one of the options below to listen.

My son and I joined a group of folks who served in this area a month after Katrina. It really took me back to what we saw there. God is really working in and through these guys in an area that really is in dire need of it. I love their hearts and I do hope you check in on them again real soon.

Really looking forward to next week. John has had a big impact on my walk from his Wild At Heart days. I've not checked on him lately, but did hear the crap that came up from some folks in our denomination — bleh!

Ironically, last summer, we moved and were temporarily homeless for a month (selling and closing should occur on the same day, but in this case the house wasn't ready :-/). Anyway, it turned out to be a fun time as we spent time house sitting for friends. One of those families knows John. We laughed about some of the stuff that was going on then and probably still dogs him — most of which is totally misinterpreted. Too bad those folks got their shorts on too tight, he's helped a lot of men and women over the years awaken to the love of Jesus. But, talking with Steve should make him feel right at home when it comes to controversy. :-)
