All these so-called blockbusters are merely fodder while we wait patiently for July 4. With all due respect to Ms. Knightly The Transformers are the original gangstas of "more than meets the eye." ;-)

Hey Matt,

I just saw Pirates III today. I actually think you may have been a little (just a very little) too hard on it.

Yes, it was about 45 minutes too long. But the movie itself was pretty fun, once it got going. Jack Sparrow, although not the complete centerpiece of the film, was still quirky & funny. The guys in the crew were great. If anyone's performance was contrived, it was Orlando Bloom (yawn!) & Kiera Knightley (a little too butch for my tastes). Also, I would have preferred more from Geoffrey Rush's Barbosa, in this film. I think he's phenominal.

I do agree that it was the least of the 3. But it wasn't so far off the mark that I wouldn't see it again.

(I'd have given it 3.5 out of 5 as well)

What about shrek 3, is that a flop too? I havn't heard.
I know Star Wars sucked bad until jar jar came along and made it worth watching, that took like 20 years for Lucas to finally fix that mess.

It's a common problem among sequels... especially 3rd or later in a series. They keep making them bigger and bigger and bigger, usually losing the charm of the originals.
