Heaven, Hell & Rob Bell

John H. Armstrong March 8th, 2011

The evangelical world was rocked a bit last week by a debate created by Rob Bell's forthcoming book, Love Wins (Harper/Collins, 2011). I read the posts attacking the book, written by Reformed writers who speak with deep certitude about everything they seem to talk about in opinion pieces. Some even went so far as to condemn Bell as a heretic. (Where have I heard this before?)

Into the fray came Mark Galli, senior managing editor of Christianity Today. Galli offers … (Read More)

On Delivering the Truth in Love

John H. Armstrong February 8th, 2011

For as long as I can remember I have found that few Christians know how to deliver reproof to their brothers and sisters in a way that is effective and humane. We have turned "speaking the truth in love" into a virtual blank check to correct others at any time and in any form we think permissible.

We never cease to amaze me. When I read that some Christians are praying for the famously outspoken atheist Christopher Hitchens to die, well… we never cease to amaze me. He is dying of esophageal cancer. I created this indisputable cartoon as a reminder to all of us… all of us… that all paths lead to the grave. I know what happens after that is where the … (Read More)

Where Is Jesus In This?

Steve Brown January 20th, 2010

I read Charles Sheldon's book, In His Steps, years ago. It was written in 1896 and is the book where the whole WWJD thing started. If you've read it, you know that it's a story about a bunch of Christians whose lives were changed as a result of a tramp who visits their Midwestern church, challenging them to live out what they say they believe. The tramp dies, but his message changes the world of those people. The book is the story of what happens when Chr … (Read More)
