Why I Went Back to Church

Susan Isaacs August 31st, 2010

I’ve heard my share of “leaving church” stories; and not from immature, fair-weather Christians but from long-term, mature believers – many who had been in leadership. They grew disillusioned by schisms and scandals, they got tired of what felt like a formulaic service, they didn’t feel fed, they didn’t feel needed. So they left – not God, but church. And they’re not alone. Anne Rice is just the latest statistic. As George Barna said in his book, Revolution, people are “leavin … (Read More)

The Problem of Pornography

John H. Armstrong August 10th, 2010

No subject makes me quite as uncomfortable to speak or write about as pornography. I suppose this is because I know the problem is so profoundly difficult yet I actually know so little about it. I have read very little on the subject and never attempted to counsel porn addicts. I have, rightly I think, preferred allowing those more skilled to help men in the grip of this mind-numbing, soul-destroying sin. I have known a few friends who’ve had serious struggles with pornography and I am keenly … (Read More)

Jesus Deficit Disorder - Leonard Sweet & Frank Viola on SBE

Erik Guzman August 6th, 2010

You've probably heard the joke about the little boy digging through a giant pile of horse manure. An eternal optimist, he exclaimed, "With all this horse poop, there has to be a pony in here somewhere!"

The Power of Real Friendship in a Culture That Gives Us RentAFriend

John H. Armstrong July 12th, 2010

The writer of Proverbs says “A friend loves at all times” (Prov. 17:17). The Scripture says so much about friendship that it is staggering really. I am thinking through a future book on friendship to follow my current writing on the relational Trinity and how we live life in the Triune God. Clearly friendship is important to a healthy life, spiritually and emotionally.

The apocryphal book of Sirach adds this rather amazing wisdom:

Let those who are friendly with you be many, but let your ad … (Read More)

The End of God & Christianity? - Schlichting & "Fuz" on SBE

Erik Guzman June 25th, 2010

Christianity is in decline in the west, and that may be just what the doctor ordered. Randy Schlichting says it enables us to step aside from power brokering and move towards living by four minority rules.

Join us as we talk with Randy about his book Minority Rules: Size Does Not Determine Success.

Then, Dr. Fazale "Fuz" Rana from Reasons to Believe stops by to talk about the world's first synthetic cell engineered by scientists. If humans can "create" life, who need … (Read More)
