Christmas Stalking

Erik December 5th, 2007

In an effort to get one step closer to Donald Miller's inner circle, we had Chad Gibbs from Burnside Writers Collective on the program this week. (I still love you Don…glad to hear you're doing well.)

Sharon and Mr. Wood were here too. Jordo and Christov stopped by, and we had a lot of fun.

Chad Gibbs is one of the funniest guys you'll read. We talked about writing, Chad's adventures in getting his book published, the Christian's need to sanitize everything, T … (Read More)

The Philosophy of Fake News

Erik November 2nd, 2007

On October 16, Stephen Colbert, the mock conservative pundit and host of The Colbert Report, announced he was running for president as a Democrat and Republican. That run seems to have been cut short, but not before thrusting fake news onto the national political stage.

Programs like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report have attained undeniable cultural significance. Is that cause for concern or celebration?

Join Steve and the gang as we talk to professor of philosophy, Jason Holt, about his … (Read More)

Are You unChristian?

Erik October 19th, 2007

unChristians are hypocritical, right-wing, judgmental, sheltered, proselytizing, gay bashers… and boring too. Does that describe you? Then you might be unChristian.

Join us as we talk with the founder of Fermi Project, Gabe Lyons, about his new book unChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity…and Why it Matters.

From the book…

"The nation's population is increasingly resistant to Christianity…the aversion and hostility are, for the firs … (Read More)

Culture Warriors

Erik September 14th, 2007

What do Howard Stern, Janet Reno, 2 Live Crew, the Florida Bar Association, and the gaming industry all have in common? They've all done battle with this week's guest, culture warrior Jack Thompson.

Join Steve as he talks with Jack about his current battles and why he keeps on fighting.

The reincarnation of Gandhi also stops by to do a bit of culture warring himself. Don't miss it!

For more from Jack Thompson, check out his book Out of Harm's Way.

Fantasy, Reality & Christianity

Erik September 7th, 2007

Have you grown tired of Christians using popular books and movies as a bridge to presenting the gospel? I have. It feels cheap and heavy handed, and Jesus is neither of those things. I wanted to spend some time talking to this week's guest Connie Neal about that, but the stuff she was saying about Harry Potter was so fascinating (and Connie is so fun to talk to), I almost forgot.

If you've boycotted the Harry Potter series because of your Christian faith, you can't afford to mi … (Read More)

Celebrity Spawn Rescue Mission

Matthew August 21st, 2007

So the latest tabloid headline is that Britney Spears, aside from her laundry list of confirmed bad choices, may be playing for the other team. All of this leaves us with a mind-numbingly improbable conclusion, that Kevin Federline is the parent who should be taking care of their offspring.

Sadly, the plight of these kids (the babies, not the celebrities) is not an isolated incident. But finally, someone is doing something about it.

PS: If these comedy bits were my kids, this week's bit is … (Read More)
