Etcetera - 09.09.08 - The Sensation of Sight

Erik September 10th, 2008

The Sensation of Sight, starring David Strathairn (see trailer below), is a beautiful, dreamlike film about an introspective English teacher who goes around selling encyclopedias hoping to find meaning in the face of pain and loss.

The movie has just been released on DVD and Aaron Wiederspahn, the writer/director/producer, stopped by Etcetera to hang out and talk about it. Use one of the options below to listen.

A Doxology in Darkness - Chapter 6 - Starving

Sharon July 25th, 2008

If you're just joining me and my story, here are chapters one, two, three, four and five of A Doxology in Darkness.

After this startling awakening, I began to recall various singles groups I had attended in my life. A couple had been great: healthy people, truly there with no agenda but to meet with others in their same social bracket, which was single. These people were not there to find their mate necessarily, but really just to make friends and interact. For these people, if it just … (Read More)

A Doxology in Darkness - Chapter 5 - Needing

Sharon July 16th, 2008

The next catastrophic blow to my belief system arrived on January 19th.

Oddly, for such a life-altering epiphany, it padded in on unspeakably soft feet. In fact, had the Holy Spirit not taken it upon Himself to underline it quietly, I may very well have overlooked it entirely.

Once again missing Tom terribly, searching frantically for an escape from the pain, I cried out to Him, asking if there was any way Tom and I would ever be reunited.

“Lord, is it ever fixable?”

Once again, in His qu … (Read More)

Etcetera - 07.02.08 - Life and Death

Erik July 3rd, 2008

This week on Etcetera, The Comedy Ninja and The Spastic Mystic joined me in the studio for a ride down the Internet Stream of Collective Consciousness. That's my silly way of saying my friends Matt and Sharon stopped by and we recorded a conversation that seemed directed by a Mind beyond ourselves.

I was all prepared to talk about my recent fascination with death (and birth as the beginning and end of death). Then, Matt gave us the update on the impending arrival of baby Alejandro and Jor … (Read More)

Kiss that Demon on the Lips

Erik October 1st, 2007

Pain is a demon we run from as fast as we can. That's one of the reasons we aren't free. Jesus hangs out around pain and when we run from it, we run from Him.

On this week's Scandalous Freedom Podcast, Steve proposes a counterintuitive approach to dealing with pain (and the fear that it may come)… Don't run away. Run toward it. Face it. Then embrace that demon and kiss it on the lips. If you do, Jesus will be there to set you free.

Thanks For The Buffoonery…

Matthew September 10th, 2007

Three plus years, two show time changes, and (approximately) 140 episodes have led to this… the end of Etcetera.

Long story short, I have recently taken a new 45-hour/week writing and directing gig. That puts me out of play for our normal show time. Additionally, schedules– and life in general– just don't allow any of us to go back to a nighttime show.

We've had a few extended hiatuses, but to save you the pain of hope, as it stands now, this isn't a hiatus.
