The Blood - Kevin Max on SBE

Erik May 2nd, 2008

What happens when you take "the black sheep of dc Talk" and put him on the same show with an old, cynical preacher of grace? Join Kevin Max and Steve Brown on this week's SBE to find out. Use one of the options below to listen.

Max has a new album out called The Blood that explores his gospel roots and features collaborations with Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Joanne Cash and a dcTalk reunion with Kevin and former band members TobyMac and Michael Tait (they cover the Prince tune The Cr … (Read More)

Into the Wild

The Merry Monkey April 7th, 2008

I’ve spent my entire life in a cage. I’m a Rhesus Monkey. I know some of my relatives live in the jungle or in zoos. I’ve seen them on TV. But I work in a lab to help the humans study the effects of blogging on the central nervous system of primates.

You may feel sorry for me, but you shouldn’t. I’m happy. My work is meaningful. Millions of people will benefit from the research in which I’m involved. Plus, I get to spend a lot of time just kicking around on the Internet, wa … (Read More)

Ichi-Go Ichi-E

Erik January 23rd, 2008

On this week's [ping], Steve Chastain from Stupid Church People.com stopped by to catch up with me, Sharon, Jordo, and Dan.

We talked about not being tripped up by our past, living in the moment, the People Project, and an absinthe drink called the Aunt Roberta (reported to be "the world's strongest cocktail").

Use one of the links below to listen.

Regarding the Aunt Roberta, apparently there's some dispute over whether or not it is in fact "the strongest, … (Read More)

Truth & Consequences

Erik November 28th, 2007

Check out this edition of [ping] and witness the birth of a new character in the pantheon of podcasting, Erik Solo.

I've never piloted this thing without somebody riding shotgun, so Mark and Jordo called in to keep me company. To stick with the Star Wars imagery, Mark plays the role of Chewbacca and Jordo makes a great C-3PO (fluent in over 6 million forms of communication).

Anyway, it was a good show. We talked about God's non-existence, keeping an open mind, truth, Rob Bell (th … (Read More)

Three Free Sins!

Steve Brown September 13th, 2007

As you perhaps know, I'm a fairly controversial teacher.

I've never quite understood that. There is a disconnect between how I think of myself and how others think of me. I see myself as a rather conservative, benign, old white guy who studies the Bible and tries to tell people what it says. I try to do it so that people won't get bored and can see the great heritage of truth Christians have and pagans should want. Sometimes, in order to get people to listen, I do push the env … (Read More)

Maybe I Went Too Far

Steve Brown September 4th, 2007

Okay, okay!

I was irritated and maybe I went too far in my comments about leaving God out of the political, social and relational stuff…I do that sometimes.

The nature of a blog like this is that I can be irritated about something and write on it before I've thought about it very deeply. The good thing about books and a lot of other stuff I write is that it goes through the editorial filter of people who don't get as irritated as quickly as I do and who are far saner than I am … (Read More)
