Internet MONKeying Around - Michael Spencer on SBE

Erik Guzman October 31st, 2008

The Internet Monk (if that is his real name) stopped by on this Halloween weekend edition of Steve Brown Etc. to try to corrupt us with his sorcerer's ways. Can you believe that this guy says it's all right for Christians to celebrate Halloween? What's next, voting Democrat?!! Yup, that too.

Join us as we talk about fear and voting in the post-evangelical wilderness.

Internet Monk Halloween Rant

Michael Spencer October 20th, 2008

As October 31st looms, it's time for true confessions.

I grew up among Southern Baptist fundamentalist Baptists. The KJV-only, women can't wear pants, twenty verses of "Just As I Am," Jerry Falwell, Jack Chick, twice a year revival kind of fundamentalist Baptists.

We were serious about things like beer. By sheer quantity of attention in sermons, drinking beer was the most evil act one could describe. We were serious about movies, cards, and something called "mixed bathin … (Read More)

Powers, Principalities & [ping]

Erik Guzman October 31st, 2007

On this All Hallows Eve edition of [ping], Satan and his minions attempt to hijack the show and find that they are no match for the power of buffoonery. Join me, Sharon, Mr. Wood, Jordo, and Jeffe as we thwart the plans of the evil one with silliness.

Also, here's that Eddie Vedder video that I mentioned on the program. It's from the movie, Into the Wild. I originally saw it over at Glenn's site. Thanks for the links and the video Glenn!

Christian Vampires

Erik Guzman October 30th, 2007

When famed gothic novelist, Anne Rice (best known for her Vampire Chronicles), returned to the faith of her childhood and dedicated her future work to Jesus, she subsequently published Christ the Lord, Out of Egypt and we quickly booked her as a guest on the show.

We also produced a comedy bit that took some shots at the fact that we booked her as a guest on the show.

This is that bit.

While not bad…it does suck. But, with Halloween upon us, you may be in the mood for something weird.

We Are the Children of the Night

John W. Whitehead October 30th, 2007

"I am Dracula."—Bela Lugosi

Halloween is associated with strange creatures, but none more so than the vampire. To most, the vampire is a myth, an image popularized in movies, television and books. Yet the vampire is no mere Hollywood creation. It is a universal legend.

Stories about this blood-sucking fiend have been told throughout the world for centuries, perhaps as long as tales have been told. The villagers of Uganda, Haiti, Indonesia and the Upper Amazon all have their local v … (Read More)

The House of Smite

Erik Guzman October 9th, 2007

Halloween is almost here. All the pagan kids are working on their costumes, decorating their houses, and dreaming of huge bags of candy.

Many Christians would urge them not to participate in the holiday, referencing its dark overtones and history. I say these children might as well enjoy themselves now, because they sure won't be having any fun when they're roasting in Hell for worshiping Satan.

If you're less calloused than I am, you may want to provide an alternative for the kid … (Read More)
