Restoring the Gulf Coast - Lagniappe Church on SBE

Erik September 12th, 2008

When Jean Larroux and Curt Moore surveyed the damage on the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, instead of leaving after their relief effort, they started a church in the desolation.

Lagniappe Church is still there. Their goal? Nothing short of participation in the restoration of creation through the declaration and demonstration of the love of God.

Now, after Hurricane Gustav, in addition to rebuilding, Lagniappe is serving as a Red Cross shelter. Curt and Jean took so … (Read More)

Truth…once you see it, you're stuck!

Steve Brown August 12th, 2008

For recent interviews, I'm reading a book by my friend, Tim Keller, The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism, and another book by Kevin DeYoung and Ted Kluck, Why We're not Emergent (By Two Guys Who Should Be).

(You can hear the interviews here and here.)

Keller writes: "Whether you consider yourself a believer or a skeptic, I invite you to seek the same kind of honesty and to grow in an understanding of the nature of your own doubts. The result will exceed anything you … (Read More)

The Shack - William Paul Young on SBE

Erik May 16th, 2008

The author of The Shack, William Paul Young, joins us on Steve Brown Etc. this week to talk about living in a jacked-up world full of pain and loss and…full of a God who loves us. Use one of the options below to listen.

Biking Against Human Trafficking Update

Erik April 10th, 2008

I just got an update from Eric with Biking Against Human Trafficking. The week after Easter he and some friends rode their bikes from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon and back (an 8-day, 450-mile trip), with the goal of raising awareness about human trafficking and motivating people to do something about it.

You can hear the [ping] podcast with Eric here. Then check out the video for the update.

Into the Wild

The Merry Monkey April 7th, 2008

I’ve spent my entire life in a cage. I’m a Rhesus Monkey. I know some of my relatives live in the jungle or in zoos. I’ve seen them on TV. But I work in a lab to help the humans study the effects of blogging on the central nervous system of primates.

You may feel sorry for me, but you shouldn’t. I’m happy. My work is meaningful. Millions of people will benefit from the research in which I’m involved. Plus, I get to spend a lot of time just kicking around on the Internet, wa … (Read More)

Human Trafficking

Erik March 19th, 2008

Did you know that 27 million individuals are enslaved around the globe today? (And that doesn't even include disc jockeys.) It's true, modern day slavery is a 30 billion dollar industry. It's an overwhelming and often hidden problem.

On this edition of [ping], we're joined by two people who've decided to do something about it. Eric and Stephanie have started something called Biking Against Human Trafficking. The week after Easter they'll be riding their bikes f … (Read More)
