Into the Wild

The Merry Monkey April 7th, 2008

I’ve spent my entire life in a cage. I’m a Rhesus Monkey. I know some of my relatives live in the jungle or in zoos. I’ve seen them on TV. But I work in a lab to help the humans study the effects of blogging on the central nervous system of primates.

You may feel sorry for me, but you shouldn’t. I’m happy. My work is meaningful. Millions of people will benefit from the research in which I’m involved. Plus, I get to spend a lot of time just kicking around on the Internet, wa … (Read More)

Human Trafficking

Erik March 19th, 2008

Did you know that 27 million individuals are enslaved around the globe today? (And that doesn't even include disc jockeys.) It's true, modern day slavery is a 30 billion dollar industry. It's an overwhelming and often hidden problem.

On this edition of [ping], we're joined by two people who've decided to do something about it. Eric and Stephanie have started something called Biking Against Human Trafficking. The week after Easter they'll be riding their bikes f … (Read More)

Love Is In The Air

Erik February 20th, 2008

Don't miss this edition of [ping]. We have some big news for you. I'm so happy, I can barely keep from typing the announcement here; but, being the Lenten paragon of discipline that I am, I'm exercising tremendous self control. You'll just have to listen.

If you do, you won't be sorry. Beyond the big news, Sharon, Jordo, Grandpa Dan, Chemical Erik and I had a great time hanging out. Use one of the links below to join us.

And oh yeah, a big thanks to Band Marino and … (Read More)

Three Free Sins!

Steve Brown September 13th, 2007

As you perhaps know, I'm a fairly controversial teacher.

I've never quite understood that. There is a disconnect between how I think of myself and how others think of me. I see myself as a rather conservative, benign, old white guy who studies the Bible and tries to tell people what it says. I try to do it so that people won't get bored and can see the great heritage of truth Christians have and pagans should want. Sometimes, in order to get people to listen, I do push the env … (Read More)

Be Still and Be Loved

Erik June 25th, 2007

The only people who get any better are the people who know that if they never get any better, God will love them anyway. What's more, God will not only love you if you don't get better; He will teach you that getting better isn't even the issue. His love is the issue.

Have you taken Steve Brown's advice? Have you given up on trying to be perfect? If so, now what?

Join Steve for the Scandalous Freedom Podcast #9 as he invites you to be still in the loving presence of God. … (Read More)

Making the Grade

Steve Brown June 13th, 2007

I'm grading papers…a lot of papers. It's as close to hell as I get without going there.

Pray for me.

I just had a thought. God does a lot of grading too, but it's easier for him than me.

It's easier for him because he gives the grade for his own before the exam and it's an "A."

It's easier for him because there is never a vacancy in the Trinity and he doesn't need the job.

It's easier for him because–contrary to some professors w … (Read More)
