It seems to me that much of the emphasis of evangelicals on piety and Christian living is rooted in a false dichotomy, or dualism. Spirituality, at least the way I learned about it, meant to withdraw from the world. I got an email this morning from a musician friend. He struggles with same sex attraction. He is one of my heroes!

He was talking about being raised in a legalistic and self-righteous church where they didn't even allow musical instruments. When my friend was cutting an album of hymns, a "godly brother"� said that his work was just "another form of worldliness."�
