Destruction in Haiti (and the Destructiveness of Words)

Susan Isaacs February 2nd, 2010

My husband Larry used to travel a lot when he wrote for World Vision. He visited countries all over the world that suffer from poverty. World Vision's mission is to help the poor with basic needs and education. Larry's a pretty idealistic guy, but Haiti was the only country he felt was beyond hope. He could physically feel the oppression and despair. He couldn't wait to leave. In fact, the official he interviewed encouraged him to do so as soon as possi … (Read More)

Clusterfuzzle – Susan Isaacs on SBE

Anne Lamott says that laughter is the carbonated form of holiness. If that's true, Susan Isaacs is an effervescent, snarky, super-saint.

Join Susan on this week's Steve Brown Etc. as we discuss the tragedy in Haiti, Pat Robertson, and we finally get the answer to the question, "If there's a good God, why does he allow so much pain and suffering?" How's that for comedy?!! Waka waka.

We also talk about Susan's current projects and, … (Read More)

Is Rush the new Pat Robertson?

Terry Mattingly February 18th, 2009

Erik Guzman October 26th, 2007

Joel Osteen, Pat Robertson, Ted Haggard, and Jerry Falwell are not cool (although Falwell is cooler now than he was before May 15, 2007).

We here at Steve Brown Etc. aren't cool either, but we do like to interview the hip in the body of Christ. (Get it? Hip? In the body? Yeah…I'm definitely not cool.)

Anyway, what is cool? Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys? If you're one of the bad guys, does that mean you're not part of th … (Read More)

Jerry Falwell (1933-2007)

Steve Brown May 16th, 2007

Jerry Falwell died yesterday.

I ought to say something about him, but one wonders what in the world one can say.

Almost anything.

Christopher Hitchens, an atheist who says really dumb things and doesn't know it, said that he wished there was a hell and that Falwell was there.

Tony Campolo talked about Falwell's graciousness to Tony's wife Peggy.

Mel White, the gay guy who came out of the closet after he had written Falwell's autobiography (maybe Go … (Read More)
