Guilt and Isolation

Erik August 13th, 2007

When a Christian leader acts as if he or she has a hotline to God and knows all, don't listen to that leader. You'll end up suffering under tremendous guilt. What's more, when you affirm that kind of nonsense in a leader, you subject him or her to a prison where it's impossible to be free.

On this week's Scandalous Freedom Podcast, Steve discusses the plagues of Guilt and Isolation that result from putting people on pedestals.

The Punishing Plagues of Putting People on Pedestals

Erik August 6th, 2007

When we worship at the altar of another human being, we chain ourselves (and our idol) to unattainable expectations that destroy our freedom to risk, think, feel, and be who God created us to be. Wars have been fought, churches have been divided and damaged, and Christians have been manipulated, bound, and hurt, all because we worshiped at some imperfect person's pedestal.

The Good News of Cheap Grace

Erik July 9th, 2007

For years, Steve Brown has been giving away free sins (as an aside, now you can too, click here). As you can imagine, this gets some people's undies in a bunch. To them, it's "cheap grace" and foolishness. But to those who are so bad as to need God's unconditional love and acceptance, it's incredibly good news…even the power of God for salvation.

Now, if you really believed God likes you and that you don't have to worry about your sin, what would you d … (Read More)

Be Still and Be Loved

Erik June 25th, 2007

The only people who get any better are the people who know that if they never get any better, God will love them anyway. What's more, God will not only love you if you don't get better; He will teach you that getting better isn't even the issue. His love is the issue.

Have you taken Steve Brown's advice? Have you given up on trying to be perfect? If so, now what?

Give Up

Erik June 18th, 2007

The desire for perfection is a two-edged sword. On one hand, the very presence of the desire assures one of being alive in Christ. On the other hand, perfectionism can turn you into a bound-up, burned-out fake.

On this edition of the Scandalous Freedom Podcast, Steve Brown lays out the case for quitting. If you don't give up on getting better, the impossible demands of perfectionism will rob you of the joy and freedom required to approach perfection.

The Perfection We Desire

Erik June 11th, 2007

I heard recently that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over again, and expecting a different result. I can relate to that.

How 'bout you? With all the teaching you've received about obedience, holiness, and sanctification, is it working for you? Are you getting any better? Are you tired of trying?

Join Steve Brown for the Scandalous Freedom Podcast #7, and discover that the greatest cause for our not getting better is our obsession with not getti … (Read More)
