Sometimes, I don’t like any of the answers.

Michael Spencer July 28th, 2009

Sometimes, I don't like any of the answers.

Let’s take the problem of suffering. My friend Glenda recently had a serious bleed-out in her brain. It looked for a while like she wasn’t going to make it. After a coma, two surgeries and some miraculous responses to treatment, she’s at a rehab center dealing with a relatively small amount of residual consequences.

This weekend at church, we were rejoicing in Glenda’s recovery. One person kept saying “Thank God for intervening.”

What is Just War Theory?

Kenneth Samples August 21st, 2007

Through the centuries Christian thinkers have taken different positions on the controversial subject of war. Three broad theories concerning the morality of war for the Christian can be identified: activism, pacifism, and selectivism. Activism asserts that it is virtually always right to participate in war. Strict pacifism insists that it is never morally right to partake in war. Selectivism argues that it is sometimes right to take part in war.

Watching Theology, Etc.

Erik Guzman July 13th, 2007

Christians and Hollywood have a checkered past. It seems that if we're not shunning movies altogether (or watching "Christian" films); we're fishing for sermon illustrations, Christ figures, and redemptive themes in movies where they just don't exist.

John H. Armstrong June 26th, 2007

Some months ago I read an intriguing editorial in the Wall Street Journal that got me to thinking about what I have seen in the church over the course of my lifetime. The editorial addressed a story about a University of Wisconsin lecturer, Kevin Barrett, who believes that the U. S. government actually staged the September 11 terrorist attacks. The response, when the story became public, came in two forms: 1) Fire him! 2) Is this guy really nuts?

The Wall Street Journal argued that the more rele … (Read More)
